It appears that since Dr. Olubukola Saraki became the Senate President under the platform of a relatively new opposition political party, he has grown some enemies because there seems to be a serious effort by those enemies to get him out of office one way or the order. Recently, a case was made against him at the Code of conduct tribunal(CCT)and he was invited to defend himself on the allegation that he made a false asset declaration many years ago. The big question people should be asking is why the CCT did not address the issue when the matter was still hot rather than bringing it up now that he became Senate president. However, it gets dramatic as Saraki's team of lawyers got a Federal high court order inviting the team from the tribunal to the court on Monday Sept 21, 2015 to explain why Saraki was being summoned. The CCT probably felt the high court was trampling on its rights and seemingly disregarded the court order by issuing an arrest warrant for the arrest of the Senate president. While everyone waited for what would happen next, the Nigerian media reported that the Police claimed they've not received any arrest warrant yet and would only act by the time they get it.September 21 would be the day when Nigerians finally gets to know who bows down first for the other. Is the CCT more powerful than the Federal high court or vice versa? Why issue an arrest warrant when the defendant has already obtained a court judgement in his favour. I think the proper thing for the CCT to do is to send their legal representatives to the high court in order to settle the case first of all before they would be able to try Saraki in their own court.Saraki's ability to act fast and get a court order in his favour shows yet again why he is a smart politician who should not be taken for granted. If he wins the tribunal case, it would yet again be a big blow to his political enemies who many Nigerians already suspect to be behind this current issue.
