I don't think there has ever been anytime in Nigeria's history during which voters have been so divided almost into 2 equal halves as they are right now. It's 2015 and there has been a lot of campaigning by a strong opposition as well as the ruling party all in a bid to secure power by the time 2015 rolls in.There is an incumbent president riding on the strength of the ruling party and there is also a former military ruler seeking to reclaim power through a strong civilian opposition party and it seems that he might very well just get it given the not so good performance of the incumbent in terms of security issues. The incumbent president has some good works and strengths too that can help keep him in power but the opposition also has a list of reasons why Nigerian voters should vote for change rather than continuity and there has been political betrayals as well as cross carpeting among them such that it becomes hard to really predict who eventually wins the top seat when the February election does happen. However, there are remarkably strong differences between the 2 sides and 2 men aiming to get hold of power or retain it. Buhari of the APC is a strong willed Muslim and Fulani from the North East, a region getting devastated by Islamic terrorists and who has tasted power before as military ruler after taking power forcefully from a sitting civilian president. The siting president Jonathan Goodluck on the other hand is a Christian and Ijaw from Nigeria's oil rich region in South South Nigeria who came to power luckily as Vice president and later became president after the death of his boss. Nigerians would have to decide to vote Buhari has the advantage of being an older and more experienced man who may be more compassionate and wiser than the incumbent but the Jonathan also has the advantage of doing more work as a younger man and less likely to allow his cabinet do the work for him while he sits passively unlike Buhari.Buhari is also seen as being more strong willed and less likely to be corrupt since he is not known to have enriched himself while in office many years ago. Jonathan on the other hand has the advantage of not been influenced by the older corrupt generation of Nigerian politicians and has a strong following among young people who believe that he is the chosen one who can save Nigeria and move her forward.Jonathan is believed to have brought more change to Nigeria given the way the economy has grown and attracted foreign investors as well as improvements in the power sector and road network. He has also contributed to the gradual development of rail lines across the nation. Some Economic analysts believe that a change in government by electing Buhari of the APC may cause a change in government policies which could reverse the economic growth and chase away foreign investors and so believe that voting for Jonathan will ensure economic stability.Buhari is older by Jonathan by as much as 15 years and is past the retirement age for public service while Jonathan has age on his side. Many believe Buhari might not be able to do much when he becomes president but the good thing about it is that he might not even want to go for another term in office if he does win.The votes for the Presidential election in 2015 is expected to be split in the middle and is likely going to be a vote along regional, ethnic and religious lines as more northerners are expected to vote for Buhari while Southerners are more likely to vote for Jonathan.Jonathan has defeated Buhari in the past but given the fact that major opposition parties have merged across the country to make the opposition a stronger unit, it's going to be hard for Jonathan to defeat him again by the same margin he did way back in 2011. Some even predict that Jonathan would lose to Buhari and if it does, it's going to be the first time an opposition party has won a sitting civilian president in Nigeria's history.Jonathan of the PDP is expected to win in states and regions that voted for him strongly in 201 and this includes the Middle belt, North West, South South and South East of Nigeria while he may have some wins in some states in the South West. Buhari is expected to also make in-roads and wins in some former PDP states and regions but most especially in the North East, South West and then some other states in the South and North West of Nigeria. It's going to be hard to predict who eventually wins the 2015 election but if winning elections in Nigeria would be based on the power of money, it will surely go to Jonathan Goodluck given that the PDP raised over N20BN as at their last fund raising activity. If however, the elections would not be about money changing hands and people were allowed to just vote with their clear conscience, it may be a 50/50 chance for either candidate but it may eventually go to Buhari given the growing impatience among Nigerian voters for the 16 years of PDP rule. Many Nigerians want change for the better but not many of them would want to vote for the APC or Buhari since they find it hard to trust that he'll be better than Jonathan. Many Nigerians are wary of voting for parties or candidates that are seen to be too Islamic or too Christian or have been there before. They prefer candidates who are secular and have new ideas on how to move the nation forward.Who will win the presidential election in 2015? Is it going to be Buhari or Jonathan?
