In the year of the Lord 2023 A.D., one thing every faithful Christian of voting age in Nigeria is expected to do is to vote during the election.
A big election is coming up in 2023 and it's for the biggest post in govt - the office of the President. They will have to unite their hands with millions of people to decide who becomes the next President of Nigeria.
Nigeria operates a democratic government and so a president does not come into office by force but is elected by and receives power from the people he is meant to serve. The duty of a President is to make life better for the people who voted him into office. One thing that Christians have learned historically is that it's always important for them to have a government and President that favours them rather than one that persecutes them. If the Christians fail to elect a govt that does not support their religion, their practise of faith or religion could be obstructed and so it's always good to vote for a President that would favour Christianity or the Christian way of life. A Christian should vote for what is right, just and beneficial for the entire society. A Christian's vote should not be influenced by money but by goodwill. In 2022, some major political parties are going to choose their candidates through a party primary so as to present them to the masses for a general election. Already, some have chosen candidates that are not Christians and chances are that they will not support the Christian way of life as a Christian President would. Wnat is even more troubling however and apprently unjustified is that we have had a Muslim President for the past 7 years and yet those political parties did not deem it fit or wise to give opportunity to Christian candidates this time around. They should have made it part of their constitution to rotate power between the 2 major religions so as to attract suppport from the masses rather than leaving it to the highest bidders. Things like that causes division and distrust to promote a non Christian as President for 12 years or more in a nation where the population of Christian and Muslims are about the same. Although no official cencus has been held in Nigeria for quite a long while, it is believed that the population of Christians in Nigeria is almost 50% if not more. Christians need to wake up and know that they need to get registered and vote for their fellow Christians when election comes up. Its a Christian's duty to vote for a fellow Christian over a non Christian and religion would be one of the major factors thay influences the outcome of Nigeria's 2023 Presidential election. For a Nigerian Christian to sit down and choose not to vote in 2023 when he is of legal age amounts to a betrayal of your faith like Judas did to Jesus. It is your Christian duty to vote as long as you are capable. It is your Christian duty to take part in elections because they can influence the future of your religion. It is your Christian duty to vote for a fellow Christian as long as they are offeing themselves for public service rather than voting for a non Christian who wont protect or promote your faith.Even if the major political parties don't present a Christian candidate as president, you should vote for even the seemingly weak or less known party for you never know how God can use them to your advantage as the scripture says "the stone which the builders rejected has become the corner stone". So in the case where the majkr polotical parries have chosen to offer the biggest office to their candidates, it is only advisable for all Nigerian parties to vote for a third party that would present a Christian party.
