It appears that with the way in which most Nigerian banks are issuing newer and probably more secure ATM cards to customers as part of their fight against growing ATM complaints and fraud, the use of Interswitch branded ATM cards are on the decline.
In a couple of months I have had 2 different cards issued to me by 2 banks and there is not Interswitch logo on them. Some of my neighbours too have received new cards from their banks and it has nothing to do with Interswitch.
Nigerian banks like UBA are now issuing VISA branded ATM cards, while GTBank is using a Mastercard branded ATM card. Intercontintal bank too has changed to Verve while others are using a variety of other brands like Mastercard, Visa, Verve but not Interswitch.
If trend like this continues, Interswitch may not be in business for long and they would have to do something fast in order to recapture their former customers. When Interswitch started partnering with Nigerian banks on ATM usage as well as online payment gateway service it charges for about N150,000, it was practically the major brand having more than 20 banks as clients, but now, it appears that her customer base has been dwindling and this would probably have been linked to increasing complaints by Interswitch ATM users in Nigeria
