Based on our online poll featured on the post Who should be Nigeria's next president in 2011, the current president, Jonathan Goodluck appears to be the most likely candidate to win, if he contests. The poll is still on but it appears that he has already gathered more than 80% of the votes with more than 917 out of the total 1248 votes and still counting based on likely candidates that will contest. In Nigeria and abroad, Jonathan Goodluck is hugely popular and even the 3 major tribes of Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa did not see him as a threat or as someone who would make any decision based on ethnic grounds since he comes from Bayelsa state.
Jonathan came from a humble family in the Niger Delta and moved his way up from public service to become a deputy governor of Bayelsa state. He later became governor because the people trusted him and still rose to Vice President based on public trust and because they saw him as a loyal servant.
Now Jonathan Goodluck has become president of Nigeria and a much more believable president since they feel that he will do the work well without any ethnic sentiments and did not come from the 3 major tribes. Jonathan has not formally indicated any interest in contesting the next presidential elections in 2011 and if he does and wins, it will be for a second tenure. He is currently the most popular undeclared candidate for 2011 elections, being the incumbent and based on his inspiring background.

I don't mind a Jonathan's Presidency provided he maintains neutrality in his approach to governance and a firmer grip on areas such as NEPA(PHCN), ICPC, whilst giving sweeping powers to the EFCC to curtail corruption even in the Presidency & National Assembly. Those guys are something else.
