If you have been following Nigerian political news lately, you would know that the 2011 Presidential elections is around the corner, with INEC doing some ground work and campaigners as well as Pro-Jonathan lobbyists opening offices in Abuja, IBB too, along with his campaign group, has declared his intention tor run for President in 2011.
Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) is a former Military head of state and General who ruled Nigeria together with the Supreme Military Council from 1985 to 1993(8 years) after taking power in 1985 in a bloodless coup that removed Buhari and stepped aside in 1993 after handing over to a civilian - Ernest Shonekan.
Now that IBB has declared his desire to run, this would not be the first time he will be coming to Abuja, although at the first time, the capital was at Dodan Barracks where his seat was before moving to Abuja.
IBB appears set to go to Aso Rock from his Minna hilltop mansion and already as many top shots who are calling on him. However it appears that age may not be on his side and on the side of his men since they equally have younger politicians in Abuja gunning for the same post, but he really has fewer opposition given that no top shot in PDP has declared interest in the race other than former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who just recently formerly applied to be re-admitted to the party.
It appears that based on recent tactics by the man many call Maradona, he is relying not just on votes from the Middle belt or Core North which may be polarized by Buhari loyalists, he is also seeking for votes from the Igbo people given that he is not sure that the Yoruba would vote massively for him. Already, Odumegwu Ojukwu has announced his support for him and given that South eastern governors and politicians have declared no interest in running for President, it is believed that IBB would select a Vice President as running mate from the South East to consolidate his plan and with a re-echoing promise to support Igbo Presidency after his single term. Will he win? Well it depends on how strong his competitors are and if Jonathan Goodluck ever decides to run for a second term.

Re: IBB - Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida - The Second Coming Posted by Felix Okoli on September 07, 2010 at 11:00:33: No need to be too harsh to our former leader. I think if he still wants to serve the nation, he is free to run. Let the people decide in a free and fair election
