The Nigerian Bar Association in collaboration with First Bank of Nigeria has launched an identity card for its members. It is a Bar card that is chip based and offers a unique id to its holder. Apart from NBA members using this card as a valid form of identification, it also offers users access to making financial card based transactions and is being geared to provide online access to a pool of academic resources in the near future.Some physical features of the Nigerian Bar card
- Passport photo embossed on it
- A plastic card with a chip
- Bears the full names of the holder as well as call year and branch
- Carries the logo of the Nigerian Bar Association
- Has an expiry date

The Digital Bar Initiative of the Nigerian Bar Association aims to create a digital credential for the lawyers, establish a TRUST system around them and develop a platform with which to access to a range of eServices are delivered to the legal community in NigeriaIDENTIFICATION WITH THE BAR CARD
Every Lawyer will be identified with a unique ID and enrolled to acquire their Bar Cards and PINS. With the DBI, there will be no more fake lawyers in Nigeria.EASE OF COMMUNICATION
Lawyers will be able to exchange e-mails securely and network, interact and share best practices, grow client base and revenue using the redesigned NBA portal. There will also be facilities for peer-to-peer exchange of contents and communication at no cost.REMOTE ACCESS TO CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION AND LAND REGISTRY DATABASES
Soon, Lawyers will be able to conduct name reservation and carry out other activities at the Corporate Affairs Commission and Land registries, without leaving the comfort of their offices.HOW TO ACQUIRE THE BAR CARD

I just pray and hope that the initiative will be sustained to the latter. The abandoned "practice licence initiative is still fresh in our memory. All the same, kudos to the initiators of this idea.
